Language dilemma
2026-06-17-01
I'm an Indonesian, who speaks several languages.
- Javanese as my mother tounge, it's a local language
- Indonesian also a mother tounge and main language, a national language
- English quite fluently and comfortably
- Japanese because I also works in translation sometimes
- Arabic just a little bit for understanding my religion, Islam
Let's focus in between Indonesian and English for a moment.
I have been on the internet at least since I was in elementary school, 2010 or so. And being on the internet also means I met a lot of people. Whether from my own country or the rest of the world. And it's either I will be using Indonesian or English when communicating with each one of them, sounds easy.
I mainly still speaks and interact with people who speaks Indonesian and who are Indonesians. Despite the lack of richness to it, I still love this language whatsoever. I really want to make this language to be more rich than ever. Heck, even today not every Indonesians know certain words that are common on the KBBI (The Great Dictionary of Indonesian Language) but actually alienating to them. By making articles and writing in Indonesian helps the literacy of our own language in the process. Whether the impact is for me or for who anyone's who reading it. And yet, if no one's reading it right now, someone else in the future might be.
And the other way around is that if I don't write it in English, I'm basically cutting off that writings for the rest of the world who's already understand English for the most part. I have done several posts in English on my main blog, but that's definitely not the whole blog is available in English too.
Leaving it in Indonesian might let some people unable to read it, but doing double work to translating and make it available in two languages is also a tedious work. But if I will be in English for most of the time will also make me feel sad because I also love Indonesian so much and it does still have the potential to become even bigger.
I know some people on the internet, at least someone I found when I exploring through some explore pages, status.cafe's profiles, webrings, will prefer to speaks and present them in English instead of their native or day-to-day languages. I totally get it because everyone speaks English and it's just easy to get people to visit their websites because they will be able to understand it.
And yet here's me, with this logsite, mixing Indonesia, mainly, and English. It's not bad, most of the interface are in English, but not with the content.
I had the idea if I made my separate website totally in English. For, you know, blog posts like what I have done at ufal.my.id is fine for now. It meant for the public to read. What I meant is a personal website, with personal updates, but in English. It meant to be exist, to be present, rather than, you know, an-article-that-sounds-too-damn-formal. A personal website, something that's so me.
I have several places on the internet right now, but definitely need to slim them down so people can make sure where am I on the internet. I mainly already under three domains now: ufal.my.id, ufal.envs.net, and ufal.is.now. So, since this logsite is still basically a playground for me, I think I would gonna do that personal blog updates here. I don't really want to bother with ufal.my.id, it's a WordPress site and let them be. So I want to know if I could make it happen, or, I don't know.
Bismillah.
